Donald was born on May 22, 1950 in Woodbury, NJ the son of Donald H. and Marian (Angleman) Briehler. He met his wife Helen Tammy Gambill in Junior High School both graduated from the same High School. Tammy and Don were married don June 29, 1974 in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
He served his country proudly in the US Navy as an EM2 with an electronic background his final assignment was aboard a research ship. Don had many accomplishments; he was most proud of his sound work for several churches and singing groups and trained others to carry on. He installed satellators and translators in order for people to hear the gospel by radio thru Bible Broadcasting Network in Charlotte, NC. He helped other Christian networks maintain their broadcast equipment with Crown Broadcast. He kept National weather Service with Independent Technology, Inc.
transmitters in top condition in order to give alerts to save lives from various emergencies which gave people time to respond to the threat. He liked to keep people in a positive frame of mind by telling jokes and stories. He was proud of his 33 years with his wonderful wife and being together with his best friend his wife. He was proud of taking care of both his mother and his wife's mother. He loved the Lord and making CD's of sermons.
He is survived by his Wife Tammy and his mother Marian Briehler both of Decatur. He was preceded in death by his father. Memorial services will be at a later date. Roger was born Dec. 13, 1938, in Centralia, the son of Marie and James Long. He was raised in Decatur and graduated from Stephen Decatur High School, where he lettered in tennis and played in the orchestra. In 1961, he received his bachelor's degree in theater from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
In 1967, he received his master's degree from Michigan State University. He taught at the University of Penang, Malaysia, for six years and studied for many years in Indonesia. In 1979, he received his doctorate from the University of Hawaii. Roger's career at the University of Hawaii included teaching as a professor, being head of his department and serving 10 years as assistant dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Humanities. After retirement, he continued his research and directed and acted in plays in local theater.
Surviving are his sister, Janis Long of Decatur; brother, Ross Thompson and wife Wilma of Decatur; many nieces and nephews; many friends around the world. Shafer on March 11, 1963, in Decatur, IL. Bill worked as an equipment operator for Macon County Highway Department retiring in 2006 after 27 years of service. He enjoyed rummaging, loved his cabin, spending time at his place on the lake in Pana, and spoiling his grandkids. He was a member of the Eagles Village Board Member (Trustee Member) at Long Creek, and was a member of the Laborer's Union. Surviving are his wife Sharon; two daughters, Lisa R.
(husband, Ken) Barnes of Atlanta, IL and Kimberly R. Ludlow of Decatur; one son William "Bill" G. Bilbrey Jr. of Decatur; four brothers, Clarence Bilbrey of Florida, Robert Bilbrey of Decatur, Larry Bilbrey of Mt. Lillian was born on May 22, 1916, in Memphis, Lillian Lewis Lewis Lillian Lewis the second of four daughters of George and Nannie M.
Leslie. Lillian graduated, as Valedictorian, from Memphis High School in 1934 and then went to Gem City Business School, Quincy, from which she graduated in 1936, having attained the speed of 120 words per minute in shorthand. She worked, then, for the owner of the Tenk Hardware Quincy, until she left in August 1937 to go to CulverStockton College, Canton, Mo. While there she worked her way through as secretary to Dean of Students, graduating in 1941, Cum Laude, in Business Adm. Econ.
She then was a secretary to the Admissions Counselor of Monticello College, Godfrey, until March 11, 1945 when she marred a USNR pilot, Joseph A. Lewis. They traveled to various Naval Air stations in St. Louis, Opalocka, Great Lakes, Oxnard, and San Diego, Ca. After Joe's discharge from the Navy in October 1945, they returned to Canton, Mo.
She was a housewife there and in Shelbina, Overland Mexico, and finally in St. Paul, as Joe was with the New York Life Ins. Co. Transferring to Decatur in January 1955, she remained a housewife until 1966 when she went to work on a part-time basis at Millikin University. That extended for 21 years as secretary to the Vice President of Student Affairs.
Lillian enjoyed Bridge, and P.E.O. meetings, having joined Chapter Memphis, Mo. In 1938, and thereafter belonging to P.E.O. in Canton, Shelbina, Overland and Mexico, and in St. Paul, and in 1955 Chapter IF of Decatur, Il.
She was a long time member of the Keystone class of Central Christian Church in Decatur. Lillian and Joe traveled extensively in the U.S., Canada, and also to England, Portugal, France, and Switzerland with various groups. They were on three different ocean cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska, and lastly, and the BEST, an 11,000 mile cruise from San Diego thru the Panama Canal, and Puerto Rico, and home. On another trip, they had flown to Seattle and Anchorage, and then toured Alaska via railroad and bus back to Juneau, and cruise liner back to Seattle. Lillian really enjoyed retirement, in 1988, playing golf, Bridge, lunches with friends, and traveling, mostly to Mesa, for 1-2 months per year, as well as Amtrack to the West Coast, and in the last Amtrack trip to Modesto, Ca.
Lillian was always ready to go to the Decatur Club for dinners and parties with family and friends. Lillian is survived by her husband; son John Lewis of Madison, WI; daughter Joann L. Curtis of Decatur, IL; and two grandchildren, Alix A. Frazier, and Charles W. Curtis, now with the U.S.
Navy Nuclear division presently at Charleston, S.C.; and their first great grandchild, Emberlynn R. Frazier, born May 3, 2007. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and their first child, a girl, in 1946. Interment will be in Canton, after a memorial service to be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at Central Christian Church in Decatur. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services.
